Employee Health benefit charge

Employee Health Benefit Charge

To offset increasing expenses, we have decided to add EHB (Employee Health Benefit) to your bill. We have deliberated many factors and decided that this is the most effective and transparent way for us to continue to offer excellent service for our guests, and great conditions for our team.

The Employer Health Tax (EHT) is an annual tax, paid by the employer, on remuneration paid to employees and former employees. This was implemented in January 2019 to fund the province’s health services and shift the financial responsibility onto employers. It is part of the province’s efforts to eliminate Medical Service Plan (MSP) premiums in BC. There is an ongoing debate about whether this is a fair and reasonable way to help eliminate MSP premiums as it places a large financial burden on small businesses. It is important to note that we are required to pay the EHT for members of our team who are not even eligible for MSP. The EHT tax has increased our costs by 10% and, in addition, all eligible employees are entitled to 5 paid sick days since January 2022.

We highly prioritise the wellbeing of our team, and as part of creating a great workplace, we offer subsidised extended health benefits to all of our employees. We believe in transparency and have decided to add a 1.5% bill charge to help us cope with these increasing costs.
